My dad takes arthiritis medicine daily, and now he gives it to my 9 year old Lab daily.
He's been taking it for a week & he`s had S0000 much energy, like a puppy again.. Usually he just lays around & hates it when my 11 month old boxer picks at him, but lately he`s been play fighting with my boxer & loving it .
i dont know tha name of tha pills .
but my dad says he asked someone & its safe to give him ... im just wondering if you`ve ever heard of that ..? jessica ~ oh , awesome . well my dogs fatttt , he`s like 85 pounds probably . but hopefully since he`s taking this stuff & finallyyyy wanting to be active he`ll lose some of that .

Depends on the medication. If it is Ibuprofen it can be fatal to a dog. If its a supplement as the person above said with glucosamine and chondroiton then it is ok but you might want to check the dosage. there is no way to tell without knowing what the medication is...

Some of the drugs used in pets are the same as those used in humans. However many human medications are harmful to pets, and certainly the dosage will be different. Unless your father is giving the dog a supplement (like those containing glucosamine, chondroitin, and/or MSM), he should consult an actual veterinarian about safety and dosage. Many anti-inflammatory medications can cause organ failure in dogs, so even those prescribed for dogs often require periodic blood tests to monitor liver and kidney function and careful regulation of dosage. A short term relief from discomfort isn't much good if it destroys his kidneys or liver and results in his premature death. I wouldn't trust my pets' health to "someone" who isn't a vet. There are plenty of people who have no clue what they are talking about and will give out advice anyway. I see many people telling others to give their pets ibuprofen or tylenol, for example, both of which are unsafe for use in dogs and are the leading causes of poisoning in dogs.

I used to give my Lab the same tablets I take for my bad knees. It's a Glucosamine & Chondroitin formula. I just worked out the dosage based on the fact he was about half my weight. Helped him heaps, and was cheaper than the vet pills for the same thing! I checked with the vet that the tabs were OK before I gave it to him. Check any medication with your vet, but it should be fine.

Yea. Some associates at petco will tell you some medicines for humans are better than the pet versions for pet useage. probably because it circulates in the system better and stays in their system longer
